Monrovia, Liberia – The Unity Party National Youth Congress (UPNYC) is concern about allegations made by the Deputy Director General of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Mr. Gwee Forkpa, during the Ministry of Information press briefing, where he accused members of all three branches of the Liberian Government of being involved in the illicit drug trafficking.
It can be recorded that during MICAT press briefing on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 that the Deputy Director of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency Gwee Forkpa, accused members of all three branches of the Liberian Government of being involved in the illicit drug trafficking.
The UPNYC finds these alarming claims unacceptable and threaten the nation’s security. Adding that If this statement is then the fight against drugs and narcotics in Liberia is being actively sabotaged from within the very institutions mandated to protect the people.” This is unacceptable, intolerable, and constitutes a betrayal of the Liberian people.”
The UP Youth Congress is therefore calling on Mr. Forkpa to publicly name those individuals found in such act with immediate effect. “whether in the Executive, Legislative, or Judicial branches, whom he knows to be involved in drug trafficking or obstructing the national fight against narcotics. The Liberian people deserve to know the truth. The youth of this country will not stand by while shadowy figures in high offices destroy our future with drugs and impunity.”
“Should Mr. Forkpa fail to disclose these names within 72 hours, the Unity Party National Youth Congress will consider his statement as reckless, irresponsible, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. In such a case, we will demand his resignation or dismissal for gross dereliction of duty and for undermining public trust in the national security apparatus.”
The drug epidemic is ravaging our communities, destroying the minds of our young people, and threatening the very foundation of our nation. Anyone, no matter their position or influence, found aiding, abetting, or profiting from this scourge must face the full weight of the law. The UPNYC stands ready to mobilize the youth of Liberia in the defense of our country’s future. The time for half-measures is over. The time for truth, justice, and accountability is now.
