Monrovia, Liberia – The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) Chief of Logistics, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) George Dietrich, paid a visit to the High Command of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) on April 28, at the Barclay Training Center.

Brig Gen. Dietrich was welcomed by Major General (Maj Gen) Davidson Fayiah Forleh, the AFL Chief of Staff, and presented with high military honors by the AFL Marching Band and Honor Guard. A vibrant red carpet event was thrown for him.

Following Brig Gen Dietrich’s high honors, Maj Gen Forleh took advantage of the occasion to present his whole staff to his visitor.

Maj Gen Forleh greeted Brig Gen Dietrich to Liberia and wished him a safe and pleasurable visit during a brief meeting. The head of the AFL focused on the military philosophies of both Liberia and the United States, providing a brief summary of the historical significance and similarities in the two nations’ long-standing connection.

The naming of Liberia’s capital after former US President James Monroe, the striking resemblance of the two nations’ flags, and Liberia’s first president, Joseph Jenkins Roberts, were all links he made to this enduring relationship.

Among other issues, Maj Gen. Forleh recalled that the AFL is a “Force for Good” in the subregion and beyond thanks to US taxpayer funds that supported the organization’s revival, reorganization, and ongoing training of its members.

He expressed gratitude to AFRICOM on behalf of the US Government for choosing Liberia to host the third US AFRICOM West Africa Logistics Conference, which is scheduled for August 2025. As AFL gets ready for the logistics conference, Maj Gen Forleh told his guest that the logistics for the delivery of the $20 million worth of military weapons that the Africa Union provided to Liberia are almost ready to be shipped.

“The AFL was a clear and inevitable choice to host the third US AFRICOM West Africa Logistics Conference because of its outstanding roles in previous conferences,” Brig Gen. Dietrich said, thanking the AFL High Command for the warm and colorful greeting.

“With representatives from the U.S. Department of Defense attending, it would be a great chance for the AFL to host the third conference,” he said.

Brig Gen Dietrich urged the AFL to highlight Liberia’s important contributions to the subregion during the meeting.

In closing, the visiting Brig Gen told the AFL High Command that US AFRICOM is eager to assist in maintaining the donated military equipment by providing staff training and replacement parts upon delivery.

The West Africa Logistics Conference provides a chance for the whole subregion to talk about shared logistics problems that may be resolved by working together. Additionally, the conference gives the host country a great opportunity to showcase the best aspects of its military force and organization.
