VP Koung Reaffirms Liberia Commitment for Food System Transformation at UN Food Systems Summit.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Liberia’s commitment to food security, climate resilience, and agricultural transformation has been reiterated by the country’s vice president, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Sr. At the current United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the vice president spoke on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

Speaking at the summit, Vice President Koung outlined the Boakai administration’s top priorities, which include strengthening public-private partnerships, empowering smallholder farmers, and increasing agro-processing opportunities in order to boost domestic food production and lessen the nation’s reliance on food imports.

VP Koung emphasized that investing not only in agricultural but also in sustainability, human dignity, resilience, and lasting transformation for future generations is key. Global leaders, decision-makers, and development partners all gather at the July 27–29, 2025, summit to evaluate progress and streamline efforts to transform food systems in support of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on eradicating hunger and malnutrition.

“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the African Union’s Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) and its strategic alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. We also emphasize the vital connection between peacebuilding and food security, which is especially important for fragile and conflict-affected governments.” he stated.

Liberia promises to continue supporting the UN Food Systems agenda as they move to the future. VP Koung said, “We want to remember the United Nations Food System Summit for its role in inspiring innovative actions for food security, not only for its pronouncements.”

This high-level engagement aims to deepen regional cooperation and attract strategic investment into Liberia’s agriculture sector.
