Monrovia, Liberia – The vice president of the Republic of Liberia, Jeremiah K. Koung, has emphasized the necessity of genuine reconciliation in order to maintain a unified nation as the country moves forward, as the country has ushered in its second consecutive post-war democratic transition from one government to another.

Vice President Jeremiah Koung declared that elections were over, noting that reconciliation is now necessary during his speech on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the opening of the 55th National Legislature and the House of Senate first regular session.

“Let us embrace a new mindset now that elections are over, eliminate the idea of a Green or Blue Liberia, and give every Liberian the opportunity to contribute his or her quota to nation-building.”

He declared that he was happy to be elected vice president of Liberia and that he would do everything in his power to make the country better in working with his office. According to Vice President Koung, the body is expecting them to deliver based on the decisions that will be made because they were voted to the Senate to represent each constituency.

“The 103 legislators who represent the Liberian people have an uncommon privilege; we carry the burdens, dreams, and aspirations of our people, and their survival depends on the decisions that we make.”

The vice president called on all legislators to act in the best interests of the people. “We must never lose sight of the fact that this assignment carries an immediate duty, making it impossible for any of us to make good on our commitments.”
