Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s Vice President, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, paid a visit to his personal farm located near Ganta, Nimba County, where he reaffirmed government’s commitment to revitalizing agriculture as a cornerstone of the national ARREST Development Agenda.
The Vice President toured sections of the expansive farmland, which features a variety of crops, accompanied by local leaders, farmers, and media representatives. His visit comes as part of a broader effort to promote food security and self-sufficiency under President Joseph N. Boakai’s ARREST agenda, an acronym standing for Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism.
VP Koung also underlined throughout the trip how crucial agriculture is to Liberia’s economy and to the development of rural areas.
“The core of our development plan is agriculture. We need to help our farmers and make investments in the land if we want to lower poverty and guarantee food security. This farm serves as a representation of what can be achieved when agriculture is given priority,” he said.
VP Koung however urged Liberians young people in particular to get back to the soil and see farming as a respectable and lucrative career. According to the Vice President, the government, under President Boakai will continue to create an enabling environment through increased support, access to tools, and market linkages for farmers.
The visit to the farm also served as a platform to highlight ongoing agricultural initiatives being rolled out in Nimba County. As Liberia continues its path toward sustainable development, the Vice President’s hands-on approach to agriculture is seen by many as a practical demonstration of leadership by example.
