“We Are Taking Advantage Of Every Opportunity” Minister Nyei Speaks on China-Liberia Relations.

Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia is utilizing every opportunity available to it, according to Dr. Ibrahim Al-barkri Nyei, Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economics Integration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also describes the China-Liberia relationship under President Joseph N. Boakai as robust and advantageous.

Speaking on the margins of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) implementation activities ministerial conference, Dr. Nyei stated that the connection between Liberia and China has become stronger and more developed.

He stated that China-Liberia has been experiencing unprecedented mutually beneficial growth during President Boakai’s presidency, including the building of an overpass bridge, healthcare intervention, and an expansion of State radio.

“President Boakai has established very strong ties with China, and we are utilizing every chance to use our partnership with China to advance Liberia’s development and deepen bilateral ties with China through the FOCAC summit and the chances these engagements present to deepen ties with other African nations,” Dr. Nyei revealed.

He added that they are collaborating with different Liberian government agencies and institutions to gain access to facilities and to draw in more opportunities from their Chinese counterparts for the growth of different sectors of the Liberian economy, especially in the infrastructure sector, which includes, among other things, roads, bridges, and the energy sector.

The Liberian political diplomat emphasized the significance of their visit and stay in China stating that they will have bilateral meetings with some Chinese diplomats and entrepreneurs to draw investments to the nation. He added that the meetings will end with a follow-up at the Chinese Embassy in Liberia to make sure the results of the engagement are evident and visible.

Speaking briefly about the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation’s importance and Liberia’s advantages during the ten-point resolution’s enactment in Beijing, China, Dr. Nyei revealed that Liberia has taken significant steps to tailor the resolution to its own circumstances since the ten partnership action plan was announced in September 2024.

An RMB 200 million aid package for Liberia was announced, with the funds going toward infrastructure development, youth training, and scholarships. “People-to-people diplomacy has also given us the chance to engage in cultural exchange. In order to comprehend China’s culture and progress, we have been sending personnel there. As part of the reciprocal exchanges, Chinese professionals in Liberia are also reaping the benefits of the interactions. Among other professional fields, they work in tourism, youth development, and medicine. We are thankful for this partnership and opportunity because it is accelerating our development and ARREST Agenda,” he said.

In light of this, he said, China and Africa are boosting their bilateral cooperation through the China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which they are employing as a strategic diplomatic tool to promote modernization and development. He claims that although global commitments have been made, programs have been carried out at the bilateral level, and the strategic action plan from the Beijing summit has been clearly executed on a bilateral basis.
