We will never walk the path of the CPP – Says Dr. Whapoe

After forming a new opposition bloc, opposition Political Party Vision for Liberia Transformation Party (VOLT) Political Leader Dr. Jeremiah Z. Whapoe, salutes the newly proposed National Democratic Alliance of Liberia (DAL) and described it as a bloc of nationalism and genuine establishment that is intended to reawaken the hope and aspiration of the Liberian people, which according to him has been damaged by the four opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP).

VOLT Stander Bearer said DAL will never walk the path of the CPP because it has an agenda and goals to deliver in the interest of the country

” The end of a tunnel is light. What happened in the CPP was a tunnel for the true light to come and redeem our people and country. We want our people across the country to see this as the beginning of new hope for the country. We are patriots and sons and daughters of this great nation.”

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Reports231 at the weekend, a week after signing the declaration of intent to form part of the new alliance, Dr. Whapoe disclosed with all fairness what lead to the fall of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) was the too much egotism from political leaders where nobody was willing to let go.

” People never enter the CPP or join on nationalism or patriotism that they are doing for the Liberian people. Rather, they all went there with selfish motives and so they could not sacrifice because they believe if it can’t be them, it can not be anybody. This was the problem with the CPP and I can say we are very far from that because we have love, and respect for each other. More to that, we are not having an ego as the others that fall”, he further said.

The Liberian politicians indicated that leadership does not call for selfishness and greed, saying anybody who does that is not a leader because a leader should first be a servant before becoming a leader. “So we are very far from the CPP leadership”, he maintained.

” How can you be in a group that populates competition and you are not serious. Thousand of people can run marathons but in the end, only one person can win. You can compete but all you need to do is to guide the process so that fairness and transparency can protect the process. We need to do that so our people can know our vision and policy so that they can choose who they want as leaders.”

He emphasized that all that ever happened in the CPP is because nobody wanted to let go but, unlike the DAL, they are genuine and we will do all the process to make a fruitful decision for the Liberian people because of the suffering and hardship are unbearable.

At the same time, Dr. Whapoe said, he is confident about heading the National Democratic Alliance as its first political leader, adding that he has the policy and program to transform Liberia from economic backwardness through agriculture where all will be able to be self-reliance and productive.

” Before you can know your strength as a politician, there has to be some competition because it is bad for you to just wake up and say you are a political leader when you do not even know your strength”, stating that the electoral process is about eligibility and having qualities that bring favorable regard and that means before you call yourself political leader, there should be a primary, convention to be tested and vetted by people.

Further narrating the reason for the formation of the party, the University of Liberia (UL) Graduate School lecturer said, looking at the political land space in Liberia they have to come together to condense the space to give the Liberian people a better chance to elect a good leader.

He averred that they are currently working on their framework document and they anticipate that other political parties will join the alliance before the 2023 presidential and general elections.
