WITH INAGURAL AND JOINT PRESIDENTIAL TRANSITION TEAM 2023

Capitol Hill, Monrovia – Outgoing President George Manneh Weah and President-elect Joseph N. Boakai today, November 24, 2023, appeared in public. The two were seen sitting side by side with their vice at the Parlors of the Executive Mansion in Central Monrovia. Weah and Boakai went head-to-head in the Liberia 2023 presidential election. The National Election Commission of Liberia, on November 20, 2023, declared Boakai the winner of Liberia’s 2023 presidential election.

On Friday, November 24, 2023, the team of President Weah and the Boakai tean met in the parlors of the Executive Mansion. The two teams are the special inaugural team and the Joint Presidential Transition Team 2023. At the meeting, President Weah said, the First meeting carries immense significance for Liberia’s democratic legacy and national history.

According to him, the expertly planned and executed transition will not only determine Liberia’s future course, but it will also have a favourable impact on peace, security, stability, and prosperity. Mr. Weah expressed confidence in the Transition Team members’ ability to lead the nation skillfully from one shore to the other, from the departing administration to the incoming one, citing their superior traits and high standards of competence and skill.

According to President Weah, Liberia’s democratic advancements as a country are demonstrated by the 2023 General and Presidential Elections. The first postwar elections to be exclusively organised by the Liberian government and people, he claimed, were conducted with such quality that they have received praises from all around the world.

He went on to say that as a result, his administration is pleased with its renewed reputation as an established democracy with robust institutions and a commitment to upholding the rule of law.

The Liberian Leader added that Liberia democratic achievements have set a new and enviable standard, not just for Liberia, but for Africa and the global community. By graciously conceding and congratulating President-Elect Boakai ahead of the final tally, he said have also earned global recognition and admiration. This monumental achievement  is a victory not just for one political entity, but for all Liberians and Liberia as a whole, he added.

“As we now embark on this transition, I implore each member of the Joint Presidential Transition Team to carry the spirit of unity and success that has brought us to this point. Let us ensure an effective, efficient, and seamless transfer of power to President-Elect Boakai and his team. To the ministries, public corporations, and autonomous agencies of the Government, I extend a call for full cooperation in facilitating the transition by diligently preparing your Turnover Notes. The success of this process hinges on our collective commitment to the greater good of our nation. To the ministries, public corporations, and autonomous agencies of the Government, I extend a call for full cooperation in facilitating the transition by diligently preparing your Turnover Notes. The success of this process hinges on our collective commitment to the greater good of our nation.”

“Members of the Joint Presidential Transition Team, let us be guided by patriotism and selflessness as we fulfil our duties. We are no longer individuals with personal interests, but a united national team working for the welfare and interest of our beloved Mama Liberia. I encourage this Joint Presidential Transition Team to prioritize and focus on the national interest, and to place the general good of the Liberian people first and foremost in your deliberations.”

President Weah emphasised the need of putting Liberia’s interests first and urged the team to take courage from the fact that Liberia have made history again. “After more than 70 years, we made history six years ago when we became the first democratically elected leader to take over as leader after another democratically elected leader. We are about to hand over this symbolic staff to a new democratically chosen leader, which will open a new and significant chapter in our democratic history.”

Meanwhile President George Weah hasdesignated Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Minister of Foreign Affairs to lead, coordinate and oversee all activities and affairs of the Joint Presidential Transition Team, and in his absence, to act as Co-Chair to  conduct all meetings from the side of the Government.
