To Help Combat Neglected Tropical Diseases, As Millions To Benefit
Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia Ministry of Health has received a substantial donation of drugs from the World Health Organization (WHO) to aid in the nation’s fight against neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
The donation, which took place over the weekend at the Central Medical Stores in Liberia, is expected to benefit millions of people who are affected by NTDs.
WHO official Dr. Clement Peter underlined the organization’s dedication to supporting Liberia in managing NTDs.
He emphasized the terrible effects that these illnesses have on people, families, and communities and emphasized how critical it is to address them in order to enhance public health and wellbeing.
The donation is a part of the Ministry of Health’s National NTD Master Plan and the WHO’s NTD roadmap, which outline interventions and targets for the control and elimination of these neglected diseases by 2030. Dr. Peter Clement emphasized that these include raising (NTDS) on a global scale and operating across diverse regions.
Dr. Louise Kpoto, the Minister of Health for Liberia, thanked the WHO on behalf of the government of Liberia for the kind gesture. She praised the WHO’s assistance in this vital area of public health and described the drugs as essential to the nation’s efforts to control and eradicate NTDs. She also described the donation as a timely attempt to support the government’s 100-day deliverable.
Health Minister Kpoto also reminded the WHO of the government’s pledge to see to it that individuals in need receive donated medications all the way to the very end of Liberia.
“Neglected tropical diseases affect millions of people in Liberia, particularly those in low-income and marginalized communities. These diseases, which include conditions such as river blindness, lymphatic filariasis, Stomatitis, and soil-transmitted helminthiasis, can cause severe disability and suffering if left untreated.”
According to the Health Minister, Liberia’s efforts to combat non-transgenic diseases have advanced significantly with the WHO’s provision of drugs.
She emphasized that the Ministry of Health will be able to reach more people afflicted by these crippling illnesses and extend its treatment programs with the availability of necessary medications. By tackling NTDs, the nation may raise the standard of living and health of its citizens while working to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals for wellbeing.
The WHO’s assistance in the fight against neglected tropical diseases shows how committed the organization is to advancing equity and global health. The WHO continues to significantly improve the lives of people impacted by NTDs and address public health issues via cooperative efforts with partners and government agencies.
The World Health Organization provided supplies for a mass drug administration that reached millions of Liberians in targeted areas last year, helping the Ministry of Health.
