    Writ of arrest hangs over Boakai and all other Executives of UP

    Capitol Hill, Monrovia – A writ of arrest is hanging over Former Vice President and Stander Barrier of major opposition Unity Party Joseph N. Boakai and all Executive officials of the Unity Party for an arrear rent of USD$180.000.00 and USD$200.000.00 for wrongfully withholding private property.

    On February 20, 2021, a Petition for Summary Proceedings to Recover Possession of Real Property was filed against Unity Party, the Chairman, and all other officials before Judge Kennedy Peabody of the Civil Law Court.

    On November 2021, Judge Peabody ruled holding Unity Party liable and ordered the Sheriff of the Court to evict Unity Party and possess the property on which the Party had its Headquarters in Oldest Congo Town and further ordered them to pay an arrear rent of US one hundred and eighty thousand ($US 180.000.00) and two hundred thousand ($US 200.000.00) for wrongfully withholding said property.

    The Respondent Unity Party filed a petition for a payment settlement on June 14, 2022, after the Petitioner asked the Court to issue a Writ of Execution for the payment of $US 250,000.

    Judge Nancy Sammy, the presiding judge, heard the petition and issued a decision directing them to pay 25% of the total within a week beginning in August 2022.

    Judge Sammy issued a second judgment on October 19, 2022, forcing the Respondent Unity Party to pay another 25%, according to the court, they again defaulted on the said ruling due to their refusal to comply with the mandate and ruling from August 16, 2022.

    The petitioner again, filed a bill of Information before Judge Peabody and the Judge ruled on May 19, 2023, mandating the Respondent to pay the judgment amount on June 10, 2023 failure which all of the Executives of Respondent shall be held in contempt.
