Young Liberians Benefit From YSBL Back To School Initiative.

Monrovia, Liberia – Over the weekend, a group under the banner “Youth and Students for Better Liberia put smiles on the faces of Young Liberians at the Great Commission Academy in Chicken Soup Factory in Garnersville by donating school items.

The organization claims that President Joseph N. Boakai’s “Back to School” project is being supported by the gift and that President Boakai is unaware of the kind act. Donated items include pencils, pens, copybooks, and bookbags totaling more than US$3,000.

In an interview with media on Friday, September 27, 2024, following the distribution event, YSBL Acting Executive Director Alexzina Wilson said, the contribution will be extended to three counties: Montserrado, Lower Bong, and Low Margibi Counties.

The organization’s goal, according to Madam Wilson, is to assist the less fortunate and those in need. She also stated that the group serves parents who are unable to pay their children’s education as well as the blind.

“We have been operating since 2015, carrying out our own projects on our own, giving back to the less fortunate and supporting the underprivileged,” she continued.

According to her, the donative initiative at the Great Commission is the first phase because the organization has been constrained financially.

At the same time, she has called on humanitarians and good well Liberians to help support the initiative. She also called on the students to pay attention to their lessons and see the initiative as an encouragement to learn.

Madam Wilson, however ranged praise on the Managing Director of the Freeport of Liberia Sekou M. Dukuly for sponsoring the first face of the initiative.

Great Commission Academy VPA Kaifa Kamara, for his part, praised YSBL for the considerate action toward the student, calling it “timely.” This should be an ongoing process rather than the organization’s final visit to the school, he mentioned.

Kaifa said, the donation will go a long way because some students started school without even a bookbag.
