Monrovia, Liberia โ€“ The Joint Committees of the House of Representatives on Mines and Natural Resources and Environment, Hydrocarbon, and Judiciary will hold a public hearing with key government institutions and stakeholders as part of ongoing legislative consideration of issues affecting Liberiaโ€™s mining and environmental sectors.

The hearing will be attended by representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, the Chamber of Mines, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Law Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Mines and Energy. The public hearing is scheduled for this Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. on the 1st Floor Conference Room, House Wing.

Senate Engrossed Bill #5 will be the main topic of discussion at the hearing, but participating institutions are also expected to give presentations on the state of the mining and environmental industries countrywide based on recent monitoring and inspection efforts.ย Additionally, written reports summarizing the results of earlier studies and field evaluations carried out on national tours must be submitted by institutions.

Stakeholders will also offer updates and suggestions on the state of Liberiaโ€™s mining industry as well as the necessity of reviewing and strengthening the countryโ€™s 2000 Mining Law in order to address new issues and realities in the industry. In order to develop policy frameworks and advance sustainable management of Liberiaโ€™s natural resources, the House of Representatives is still dedicated to guaranteeing an open and inclusive legislative process.
