Senator Momo Cyrus Vows Massive Transformation of Liberian Football Ahead of LFA Elections

Monrovia, Liberia – Momo Tarnuekollie Cyrus, a football administrator and senator from Lofa County, has promised to significantly improve football in Liberia if elected to the Liberia Football Association’s Executive Committee. On May 15, 2026, the Liberia Football Association is scheduled to hold its elective congress. Senator Cyrus, the CEO of Wologisi FC, the Second Division League champions, is running for a seat on the Executive Committee.

The Association’s top decision-making body, the LFA Congress, is in charge of defining football regulations, admitting clubs, approving budgets, and electing officials. Speaking at a debate hosted by the Sports Writers Association of Liberia in Monrovia at the LFA Headquarters, Senator Cyrus reiterated his enthusiasm and dedication to the development and evolution of football throughout Liberia.

The senator added that without the chance provided by football stakeholders through the Executive Committee, his goal to make a significant contribution to football development cannot be completely realized through his senatorial position alone.

He pleaded with club owners and delegates to support his decision in order to help improve football in the country. Senator Cyrus stressed that his abilities to lead, negotiate, establish relationships, sell, and bring people together will have a great effect on Liberian football.

He emphasized that the LFA needs visionary and creative people on its Executive Committee to help Liberia keep up with international standards, pointing out that football is changing quickly around the world.

The lawmaker further promised stakeholders that any valid salary or sitting fee he receives as a member of the Executive Committee will be used to support the growth of women’s football in Liberia. He added that this commitment is similar to what he has already done in Lofa County.

He clarified that he made a pledge to reinvest his income in county development during his senatorial campaign, which he believes has already contributed to a number of achievements in Lofa County. Additionally, Senator Cyrus urged delegates to nominate financially qualified members of the Executive Committee who can independently and greatly contribute to Liberian football.

Speaking further, he promised to assist LFA President Mustapha I Raji’s agenda and make an important impact in the field of security, which he defined as his primary area of expertise in addition to his background in business and diplomacy.

The Senator also revealed that a planned “Liberia Sports Authority” bill is presently being worked on by the Liberian Legislature. According to him, this bill will encourage corporations and concession businesses to engage in clubs and sports development in Liberia.

Senator Cyrus acknowledged that he played basketball instead of football when he was an active athlete, but said his passion and enthusiasm for football increased dramatically while he was the chairperson of the steering committee for the National County Sports Meet.

He maintained that this encounter ultimately led to the founding and ascent of Wologisi FC into Liberia’s premier football league. He added that even though he has made significant financial investments in football, he has never personally profited from the game, highlighting the fact that his ambition is motivated more by a desire for growth than money.
