African Auditors General Attend High-Level Accountability Summit in Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia – The General Auditing Commission is hosting a week-long Governing Board and Strategic Review Meeting of the African Organization of English-Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E), which has brought prominent Auditors General from across Africa to Liberia. The conference, which began on Monday at a hotel in Monrovia, brings together Auditors General from 26 African nations to debate how to improve accountability, encourage openness, and promote public sector auditing throughout the continent.

The African Organization of English-Speaking Supreme Audit Institutions, or AFROSAI-E, is made up of two Portuguese-speaking countries and twenty-four English-speaking countries. Under the auspices of AFROSAI-E, SAI Liberia, through the General Auditing Commission, is hosting the meeting, which will take place from May 18 to May 22, 2026.

The meeting, according to its organizers, will examine advancements achieved under AFROSAI-E’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan while investigating fresh strategies to guarantee audits have a bigger influence on the lives of residents in all member states. Officials say the annual meeting aims to improve peer-to-peer cooperation among member nations, increase institutional capacity among Supreme Audit Institutions, and execute statutory requirements.

The summit will focus heavily on expanding the use of data and technology in public sector auditing across Africa, according to P. Garswa Jackson, Auditor General of Liberia. He pointed out that Liberia’s decision to hold the high-level event is indicative of the nation’s dedication to worldwide best practices in public finance management, accountability, and openness.

Keynote addresses during the Strategic Review Meeting are anticipated from former IMF Deputy Managing Director and former Finance Minister Antoinette Sayeh and former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
