102-years-old Mother Extols Group Intervention, Alarms Gov’t Neglect

Monrovia, Liberia – Mary Kpan, a 102-year-old woman, has thanked the World of Life Ageing Project, its founder director Dr. Sam Ndorleh, and partners for their ongoing assistance to more than 377 elderly people in six communities in Montserrado County. She also expressed dissatisfaction with the government for allegedly failing to establish and implement policies for the health and well-being of aging parents nationwide.

Madam Kpan, who is 102 years old, recently praised the group and its partners for their ongoing support, saying that God will continue to bless them as they continue their work. She claimed that their health program and food aid have been very beneficial to them, which she feels has helped them feel a part of society and has also contributed to their longevity.

She did, however, voice her dissatisfaction and displeasure with the Liberian government’s purported disregard for elderly citizens and parents throughout the nation. “My people, please join me in applauding Mr. Ndorleh and his partners for their ongoing contributions to our well-being. They deserve praise for providing us with free medical treatment and nutritional aid. But I’m dissatisfied with the government. Our government isn’t interested in us. We don’t get food or health care from the government. This man has everything left, therefore we pray that God will bless him.”

Ms. Rebecca KG. Nyamndo gave an overview of the Ageing Project, stating that it was started in Liberia at the official opening of the institution with the intention of serving the elderly population there. The goal, in her opinion, is to provide care for those 65 and older, which will enable them to more effectively engage and contribute to their communities.

“The WLI Ageing Project has been helping older people 65 and older with food and medical needs. We now have around thirty-seven beneficiaries, compared to our original thirty-five.”

“We pray that God helps our Executive Director and partners, but we have plans to do more and include more people,” she said.

The Christian non-governmental organization World of Life International (WLI) commemorated two years of financing and existence on Sunday, October 20, 2024. WLI was founded in 1998, with a branch in the United States. In 2018, it was granted consultative status with the UN, and on Thursday, October 20, 2022, it was formally launched in Paynesville, Liberia.

Since the institution’s founding and the UN’s subsequent designation of it, the group has been recognized by the Liberian government as an international non-governmental organization (NGO) and has been working on a number of projects in Liberia using funds from its office in the United States.

Dozens of elderly people, including the institution’s more than 357 beneficiaries and other partners in Paynesville, Pipeline Road, attended the WLI celebration.
