14th Military Hospital celebrates fourth anniversary.

Schefflin, Margibi County – The 14th Military Hospital, Liberia’s first post-war specialist military medical institution, celebrated its fourth anniversary with staff and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia.

Employees, including AFL physicians, and visitors gathered at the hospital property in Schefflin, Margibi County, on Friday, September 5, 2025, in order to reflect on the institution’s successes and difficulties since its founding in 2021.

Speaking at the celebration, Maj. Dr. Albertha Clark-Kollie, the hospital’s chief physician, stated that the facility has been crucial in managing serious medical cases and strengthening Liberia’s emergency response capabilities.

“The 14th Military Hospital was commissioned to improve the delivery of healthcare nationwide and to act as a referral center during health emergencies, such as pandemics and outbreaks,” she said.

The hospital has been instrumental in teaching medical personnel, offering specialized care, and enhancing the offerings of other public hospitals over the last four years, according to Dr. Clark-Kollie’s narration.

“The 14 Military Hospital was also established to provide quality, accessible, and rehabilitative health care services to members of the AFL, their dependents, and the Liberians population,” CSM. Joyce Acquoi said in her overview of the institution.

She did, however, add that the hospital’s vision statement aspires to establish it as a center of excellence for medical training, emergency response, and military and civilian health care in Liberia and the West African subregion.

A maternity ward, inpatient and outpatient sections, and comprehensive health care unit are all features of the hospital’s 200-bed faculty, according to Madam Acquoi.

According to her, the facility also offers various services, such as surgical theaters, diagnostic services including laboratory and radiology, a pharmacy, a blood bank and an emergency unity.

She revealed that the 14th Military Hospital offers core services in general medicine, specialty care, surgery, maternity and child health care, mental health care, emergency and trauma care, preventive medicine, and health promotion, in addition to isolation and treatment wards for infectious diseases.

The hospital also responds to pandemic and epidemic outbreaks, including COVID-19 and Ebola, and serves as a national referral center in addition to being a military medical facility, Madam Acquoi informed the guests.

The facility is run by the Ministry of National Defense in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, and it works closely with both domestic and foreign partners, such as the US government, ECOWAS, and other stakeholders, according to Madam Acquoi.

Speaking about the hospital’s long-term goals, she emphasized that they include expanding specialized services, introducing cutting-edge medical equipment, and establishing a military medical training institution.

According to CMS Acquoi, the construction of the facilities is anticipated to establish the hospital as a National Center of Excellence and lessen the strain on other referral hospitals in Liberia.

She also thanked the Chinese government for helping to build a fully functional military laboratory, which will be dedicated by the next anniversary.

Assistant Minister for Public Affairs Oscar Mublah, speaking on behalf of the Minister of National Defense, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to maintaining a testament to the resilience and pride of the country.
