The head coach of the National Soccer team of Liberia, Peter Butler, has again come under serious criticism by some Sports personalities following the release of a list of 30 local-based players to begin training this Friday ahead of the country’s engagements in thick international competitions.
Coach Butler, 30 players listing did not capture two of the highest performing players in the just ended 2021/2022 Orange 1st division league but selected several 2nd division players instead.
The players in question are Sekou Sheriff of LISCR FC and Invincible Eleven’s Sidiki Kromah.
Sekou Sheriff who is popularly known in Liberian football as a “Ball passer” scored 7 goals and provided 10 assists in 19 league games as a midfielder while Sidiki Kromah scored 13 goals and provided three assists in 20 league games playing as a forward.
Following the announcement of the listing on the official Facebook page of the Liberia Football Association on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, some sports lovers’ couple with members of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia described Coach Butler’s selection as unfair.
The President of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia, Kolubah Zayzay, could not hold back his thoughts on Coach Peter Butler’s selection. Mr. Zayzay described the leaving out of Sekou Sheriff and Sidiki Kromah on his official Facebook post on Wednesday after the list of 30 players was published as what a missed!
Meanwhile, the Lone Star Coach came under the spotlight in 2021 when he selected two 3rd division players for the senior national team; something according to football lovers was slipped in the face. According to them, for a coach who has played 17 matches and won just five and lost 12 to not have been progressive is saddening for a country that is so hungry for success.
