Zubah Town, Paynesville – On Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Willis D. Knuckles Sports Stadium in Zubah Town, Paynesville, the 4th Edition of the Pennoh W. Bestman (PWB) Memorial Football Tournament came to an exciting conclusion with Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) defeating Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI) in an action-packed championship game.

Elton Tuning, the captain of LAA, scored his team’s first goal in the opening period, and Lorenzo Watkins added a second. During the first half, LBDI also scored a goal, giving LAA the advantage and capping off a fiercely competitive period.

Despite giving up two goals, LBDI made an effort to control LAA for the majority of the opening period. Later in the second half, though, LBDI’s defense was unable to withstand the relentless pressure from their opponents.

The third goal was scored by Alexander Dargbe of Airport Authority, while the fourth goal was scored by Frank Bindah in the eighty-first minute of play after receiving an assist from teammate Alexander Dargbe. Final score: 1 for Liberia Bank for Development Investment and 4 for Liberia Airport Authority.

A football exhibition game between the Alpha Old-timers All-star team and the Liberia Black Star ended in a 3-3 draw. And in the opening match of the competition, LAA defeated GOTSAC 2–1 while LBDI defeated Orange Liberia Football team by the same score.

Girls of Black Star defeated Orange Liberia Kickball team 4–3 in the exhibition game of kickball. A program honoring individuals and sponsors/partners for their dedication to the tournament was held after intermission. While other teams received Certificates of Participation, partners such as Alpha Old-timers, MANCO, TAMMA Corporation, and Orange Liberia received Certificates of Appreciation.

The 2023 PWB Memorial Football Tournament is supported by members and partners, and Liberia Black Star would like to express its gratitude for their assistance.
