ALJA Cautions Political Parties To Await NEC Results

Monrovia, Liberia – Pewee Baysah, the National President of the Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas (ALJA), has urged political parties to refrain from declaring victory and to hold off on making any announcements on the results until the National Elections Commission provides them.

Political parties should allow the Commission to carry out its constitutional role of announcing election results, according to Pewee Baysah, who was speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at the ALJA office in Monrovia.

“We would like to remind political parties that the National Election Commission is the only institution enpower to announce election results and declare winners. We want to avoid causing mayhem in the streets. I believe that the media is essential in making sure that the words coming from all political parties are filtered so as to avoid inciting violence or confusing the process.”

While applauding political parties for promoting high voter turnout during the election process, Baysah advised them to exercise patience and hold off on making their decisions until the National Elections Commission announced the results.
