Nimba County, Liberia – In an effort to demonstrate corporate responsibility and community spirit, ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) joined fence line communities around Nimba County on July 28, 2025, in commemorating Liberia’s 178th Independence Day. In Nimba, particularly in Gbedin, Zolowee, and other concession-impacted communities in Electoral District #2, the celebration was held in a number of towns and villages within the company’s operations territories.

More than 700 youth came in Zolowee to commemorate the event and receive gift packages from the company, making it a day of celebration and introspection. In addition to symbolic distributions of toys, snacks, and slippers, the event included entertaining activities for kids. Many of the young recipients found it to be a unique experience and a unique chance to commemorate the country’s independence in a joyous and welcoming setting.
One of the important villages close to ArcelorMittal’s activities, Zolowee, expressed sincere gratitude to the company for considering the local young people. During the event, Mr. Wesley Gbato, the town’s youth chairman, conveyed his gratitude.
“AML, I sincerely appreciate everything you do. Our community values this celebration greatly, especially the children who feel appreciated and remembered,” Mr. Gbato remarked.
Attending parents were similarly moved by the company’s effort. In an interview with media, one parent praised AML for planning the party and giving the kids presents.
“My sincere gratitude goes out to AML. Candy, popcorn, and slippers were given to my children. I want to really thank them for what they are doing today, since they weren’t doing this previously. With passion, the father said, “Let them go on.”

ArcelorMittal Liberia, one of the biggest employers and investors in Liberia, has always supported and engaged host communities, strengthening its links with them. The event on July 28th promotes the business continuous dedication to social inclusion and community development.
AML has renewed its commitment to helping fence line communities by making social investments that foster harmony, culture, and well-being in addition to infrastructure and economic growth. The Nimba celebration of Liberia’s independence served as a reminder that simple deeds of kindness and common experiences that unite people are just as important to national progress as large-scale initiatives.
AML’s attendance at this year’s July 26 celebrations was more than just symbolic for many in Zolowee and the neighboring areas; it was a show of support and concern for those who are most directly impacted by its operations.
