Monrovia, Liberia – ArcelorMittal Liberia has launched its Annual Integrated Medical Outreach Program, renewing the company’s commitment to expanding access to primary healthcare services for people living in remote and underserved communities across Bong, Nimba, and Grand Bassa Counties.
The 2025 outreach started in Zoweinta, Bong County, where the medical staff of ArcelorMittal Liberia provided a wide range of vital health services in collaboration with the Bong County Health Team. Maternal and child health support, common sickness treatment, vaccines, non-communicable disease screening, health education, prenatal care, and referrals for further care when needed were all provided to the residents. The outreach made basic medical care far more accessible to many local families, easing the stress of long travel and related expenses.
The outreach program continues to close important gaps in healthcare service and improve community well-being, according to community leaders and citizens who expressed gratitude for the project. Many people referred to the initiative as a lifeline for rural homes that always struggle to get access to medical facilities.
The Integrated Medical Outreach Program of ArcelorMittal Liberia was initially implemented in 2022 to help close the gaps in rural people’ access to healthcare, particularly for women and children who need regular immunizations and prenatal care.
Since then, the initiative has treated avoidable illnesses, administered thousands of immunizations, and used focused education campaigns to encourage healthy lifestyle choices. ArcelorMittal Liberia has reinforced its collaboration with the County Health Teams of Nimba, Grand Bassa, and Bong with this year’s extended deployment. AML Hospital Services in Yekepa is providing technical and logistical support.
The initiative is a key part of ArcelorMittal Liberia’s long-term plan to support resilience and community health in the fence-line and rail corridor villages. Chronic disorders like diabetes and hypertension are becoming more common in these communities, which also frequently have inadequate public health infrastructure. By combining treatment, prevention, and health awareness, the outreach program tackles these problems.
The program’s alignment with national health priorities has been guaranteed by the collaboration between ArcelorMittal Liberia and county health authorities, which also improves the skills of local health workers. County health teams regularly participate in the outreach programs to gain more experience and ensure that care is maintained even if the AML team moves to a new municipality.
Following its successful start in Zoweinta, the outreach initiative will continue in Nimba and Grand Bassa Counties, where residents will get similar services tailored to local health needs.
The initiative represents ArcelorMittal Liberia’s broader commitment to promoting community development through programs that improve living conditions, advance public health, and bolster the company’s standing as a responsible and engaged business partner.
ArcelorMittal Liberia continues to show that sustainable development is about more than just economic expansion, it’s also about making sure that communities are resilient, healthy, and prepared to prosper with the revival of the Annual Integrated Medical Outreach Program.
