“I was delighted to welcome my brother, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., to State House, Freetown,” President Bio stated as he welcomed the Liberian leader upon his arrival in Sierra Leone.

President Boakai left Liberia on a four-day working visit to Sierra Leone on Monday, November 18, 2024.
The momentous visit represents a turning point in the development of the long-lasting relationship between the two neighboring countries.
In a ceremonial speech at State House in Freetown, President Boakai emphasized the two nations’ deep historical and cultural ties while expressing sincere thanks for the kind welcome given to his group.
President Boakai emphasized that the goal of his visit was to have a substantive conversation about important regional and bilateral problems.
“We’re here today to have a meaningful conversation with President Julius Maada Bio, my distinguished younger brother and colleague. I am confident that with your leadership, Sierra Leone will prosper, find peace, and develop even closer ties within our region.”
Both presidents underlined their commitment to advancing peace and stability in the face of escalating tensions in the West African subregion.
In addition to highlighting Liberia’s “ARREST” development initiative which focuses on roads, agriculture, rule of law, education, sanitation, and tourism, President Boakai also examined at ways to align it with Sierra Leone’s “Transformative Acceleration Agenda,” which prioritizes infrastructure, technology, public service reform, food security, human capital development, and youth empowerment.
“Sierra Leone and Liberia have developed a mutually beneficial partnership that has strengthened our bilateral ties and improved socio-economic growth,” he said.
He encouraged the peoples of the two nations to collectively define a route for ongoing collaboration that uplifts their dreams and ambitions, assuring a safe, prosperous future for everyone, leaving no one behind.
As the talks came to an end, both presidents reaffirmed their shared dedication to promoting regional integration through organizations like the United Nations, AU, ECOWAS, and the Mano River Union (MRU).
Development cooperation, economic integration, and regional security were among the main topics covered.
The alliance between Liberia and Sierra Leone is entering a new phase with this visit, signifying a shared vision for a more resilient and powerful West Africa.
