Describes Him As Loyal Servant.
Capitol Hill, Monrovia – At a somber memorial service in the United States of America, President Joseph N. Boakai paid a heartfelt homage to the late Sylvester M. Grigsby, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, calling his lifelong friend and old classmate a “trusted friend and loyal servant.”
The Liberian leader, who tribute was delivered by his son, Joseph Boakai Jr. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, expressed deep sorrow and recounted Grigsby’s unwavering dedication to Liberia and his invaluable counsel throughout their decades-long friendship.
According to the President, Grigsby was not only a coworker but also a confidant whose insight informed many of his choices. “We say goodbye to a man of dignity, integrity, and humility today. Beyond his role as a minister, Grigsby was a dependable ally who valued service over self-interest. I have lost a close friend, and Liberia has lost a patriot,” President Boakai remarked sorrowfully.
The funeral was marked by tears, prayers, and reflections on a life dedicated to public service. As the casket was lowered, tributes echoed the same sentiment: Liberia has lost a statesman whose legacy will live on. Following a period of sickness, Minister Grigsby passed away earlier last month, leaving behind a nation in mourning, a distraught family, and a legacy of dedication to the nation, loyalty, and humility.
The late Grigsby had a lengthy career of government service, including senior-level advisory positions and diplomatic missions. He was the current administration’s Minister of State for Presidential Affairs.
Additionally, on Saturday, government representatives, relatives, and close friends gathered in the United States to commemorate the life of Minister Grigsby, who spent decades serving Liberia in a variety of positions. He was widely regarded as a man of peace, diplomacy, and patriotism who devoted his life to promoting national advancement and togetherness.
