Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Boakai is currently on a four-day working visit in Freetown, Sierra Leone, which is a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties.
On Monday, November 18, the Liberian leader and other government officials journeyed to the Republic of Sierra Leone via road.
Concurrent with a rise in regional cooperation activities, the presidents want to further collaboration on issues ranging from security to trade during the summit.
President Julius Maada Bio welcomed President Boakai and emphasized the connection between the two nations’ histories and cultures.
“Liberia and Sierra Leone have a special chance to take the lead in enhancing sub-regional cooperation, especially in border security, as neighbors with open borders,” said President Bio.
President Bio highlighted important prospects for trade and economic cooperation and commended President Boakai for his focus on agriculture.
In order to foster information sharing and further solidify relationships, President Bio suggested interministerial interactions.
President Boakai responded by reaffirming Liberia’s commitment to both countries’ peace and security and by acknowledging the two countries’ longstanding ties.
“The partnership between Sierra Leone and Liberia has developed into one that benefits both countries, fostering socioeconomic development and fortifying our bilateral relations,” Boakai said.
President Boakai stated that he took a road trip to observe directly the impressive progress made by the Bio government, especially the upgraded road systems.
After their talks, the two presidents released a joint statement restating their determination to further sub-regional cooperation in the fight against unemployment and hunger by means of creative agricultural projects.
In light of the economic challenges and security dangers facing West Africa, experts view President Boakai visit as an important step in strengthening regional cooperation. Due to their shared experiences with the effects of political unrest in nearby states, both nations view their partnership as essential to regional stability.
