Seals Development Alliance With WOWOH
Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai has increased his administration’s development agenda and revitalized higher education, agriculture, and youth empowerment in northern Liberia by establishing a strategic institutional and financial partnership with Eric W. Wowoh, the founder of Change Agent Network University (CAN-U).
The President made a strong commitment by giving the school US$15,000, US$5,000 to expedite the development of its administrative building, and US$10,000 to install a solar energy system. These actions are anticipated to greatly enhance academic operations and campus life.
“We are committed to the long-term agreement to support this institution because of its importance to the people it serves,” President Boakai declared.
The partnership, “A Strategic Vision for National Transformation,” establishes CAN University as a growing center of opportunity in Lofa County. The president has outlined plans for international cooperation with a university in Arizona, USA, with the goal of enhancing academic capacity and professional training.
In line with his larger national plan to promote inclusive growth and workforce development, Boakai also placed a strong emphasis on increasing technical and vocational education in the area. Built by the People, Backed by the Diaspora, the narrative of CAN University exemplifies a concept of participatory nation-building that is exclusive to Liberia.
However, the land for the campus was donated by residents of Fissibu Town, Zorzor District, underscoring grassroots commitment to education. Additionally, over 80% of the university’s funding has come from outside sources, such as international partners and Liberians living abroad. Local communities have also donated labour and resources, strengthening the strong bond between Liberians both domestically and internationally.
In addition to providing urgent funds, President Boakai promised to install a state-of-the-art drilled-water system with complete piping, guaranteeing safe water availability throughout the campus a crucial step toward long-term institutional viability.
At the heart of the partnership is the Genesis Farm Project, a 150-acre agricultural initiative in Wozi Town, Zorzor District, spearheaded by Wowoh. It is anticipated that the farm would serve as a national example for agricultural innovation and food security.
Additionally, the President has advocated for crop selection to be guided by soil testing, indicating a data-driven strategy to optimize impact and productivity.
