Ivory Coast – President Joseph N. Boakai joined a group of African leaders in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Monday to witness President Alassane Ouattara’s inauguration for a second term in office, demonstrating regional unity.
The ceremony drew a remarkable lineup of heads of state from West and Central Africa, highlighting Côte d’Ivoire’s increasing political significance and stability in the area, according to a December 9, 2025, Executive Mansion announcement.
President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, who presently serves as the chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal, President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema of Gabon, and President Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo-Brazzaville were among the leaders present.
The presence of the Liberian leader reinforced Liberia’s commitment to improve bilateral and diplomatic ties with its neighbors. Boakai had a friendly chat with President Ouattara on the margins of the event, congratulating him on his renewed mandate and recognizing Côte d’Ivoire’s continuous leadership in promoting regional development.
He stated that Liberia is prepared to further collaboration in important areas, such as shared development projects, economic partnerships, and peacebuilding.
Additionally, President Boakai emphasized that the future of West Africa depends on coordinated effort, reassuring President Ouattara of Liberia of his determination to collaborate closely with regional partners to improve security, strengthen cross-border cooperation, and uphold a prosperous environment.
In addition to showing unity, the Liberian leader’s attendance at the inauguration reaffirmed his dedication to a more secure, unified, and stable West African region.
