Boakai Leads Weah in Run-off

Monrovia, Liberia – The opposition Unity Party’s Joseph N. Boakai is leading the November 14, 2023, presidential run-off. The first results following election day place the Unity Party (UP) presidential candidate ahead of George M. Weah, the presidential candidate of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), according to the National Election Commission’s (NEC) daily report.

The National Election Commission announced on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, that 22.33 percent of the total percent of votes was mounting to 1,315 out of 5,890 polling places. The NEC added that UP Boakai obtained 193,041 votes with 50.71%, while CDC Weah obtained 187,615 votes with 49.29% of the first result announced.

The first result announced by the NEC puts Boakai in the lead with 5426 votes ahead of Mr. Weah.
