Monrovia, Liberia – Mr. Sheik Yaya Jalloh, a well-known Liberian businessman and president of the Paynesville Business Association (PABA), has advised Liberians to choose peace and communication over violence, claiming that the country gained nothing significant from the 14 years of civil war.
The Consortium of Civil Society Organizations’ highest prize, the “Ambassador of Nonviolence and Outstanding Businessman award 2024,” was given to businessman Jalloh on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. He revealed that the civil war in Liberia resulted in a significant loss of life and property.
“Nonviolence is a way of life that demands patience, bravery, and an unwavering faith in each person’s inherent dignity. It is not merely a strategic approach. As you are aware, we have been fighting a civil war in this nation for 14 years, and we have lost more than we have gained,” Jalloh added.
He emphasized that there is still time to work together for the country’s transformation, adding that they may still alter the perspective and strive for the state’s revolutionary advancement. The real estate developer went on to say that Liberia was among the greatest nations in the 1980s and 1970s because everyone wanted to live there; in fact, people used to go from America to live there.
“People are fleeing Liberia to another nation because they have witnessed something there that they have not seen before. He said, “When we eradicate violence, we have a fate smile, we change our minds, and we adopt new attitudes. Liberia will be moving toward a greater nation that everyone will want to visit and stay in.”
According to the Liberian philanthropist and business advocate, Liberia is currently among the world’s poorest and least developed nations as a result of the conflict.
The award given to Jalloh states, “This Certificate is Presented to Amb. Sheikh Yaya Jalloh in recognition of your unwavering commitment to the principles of nonviolence, peace, and harmony, we therefore confer upon you the highest title of honor”A remarkable businessman and ambassador for nonviolence 2024.” Given under our hands and seal on this faithful day of January 15, 2025 AD.
The Liberian businessman stated after accepting the prize that it is not just about him but about everyone who believes in the transformational potential of empathy, communication, and understanding.
