The recent attack at the Brewerville residence of former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott, which resulted in the death of one of her relatives and injury to another, has been vehemently denounced by the Coalition for Democratic Change. Mulbah Morlu, the national chairman of the CDC, said it is regrettable that some lawmakers and the opposition to the government are using the tragic events to advance their political agendas.
Speaking at a news conference in Congo Town, Chairman Morlu urged the Liberia National Police and the Ministry of Justice to work together and use their best efforts to launch a prompt, impartial, and thorough investigation into this incident. The CDC National Chairman offered the party’s condolences to the bereaved family and warned party members and the general public of Liberia not to disrespect the family by using the sad incident as a pretext for a political maneuver.
“While the investigation is going, we want to appeal to all Liberians especially citizens in the opposition, to desist from making false claims that these unfortunate acts were the results of the government failure to provide security protection for the former Chief and a witch-hunt adversary.”
According to him, President George Weah will never engage in political witch-hunt, he does not have any political prisoner and expressed the need to wait for the outcome of the investigation.
Morlu urged the foreign governments making these accusations, particularly in those nations that have made significant contributions to the political, democratic, infrastructural, and economic development of their nations, to be aware of the potential risk that these unfounded claims pose to the stability of their nations. He characterized President Weah as the personification of peace and unity who has spent his entire life working to make his people happy while upholding everyone’s right to free expression and association.
Counselor Verdeier claimed during an appearance on a local talk program that Jefferson Koijee, the Coalition for Democratic Change’s Secretary General, was involved in the horrific murder of Gloria Musu Scott’s daughter. Colonel Patrick Sudue was lined by Counselor Verdier as well.
The deputy director of micro finance at the Central Bank of Liberia, Matthew Innis, died, as well as the inspector general of the Liberia National Police, Jefferson Koijee, the mayor of Monrovia City Corporation, Samora Wollokollie, the deputy minister of finance, and numerous others.
Morlu characterized the accusations as a cunning political stratagem designed to undermine the Weah-led administration and turn the populace against important players in the system. The CDC National Chairman urged the LNP and Justice Ministry to ask the American government to look into Counselor Verdier’s remarks and hand him over to the Liberian government for questioning.
