UP instructs County Chairpersons to submit comprehensive Expenditure reports of Controversial US$5,000

Monrovia, Liberia – The ruling Unity Party has directed county chairpersons to provide detailed spending reports to the National Secretariat regarding the use of the contentious $5,000 that was given to each district for the inaugural celebration.

Reverend Luther Tarpeh, the chairman of the ruling Unity Party, has refuted claims once more that he and UP county officials stole money meant for inaugural celebrations in each of Liberia’s 73 districts.

A total of US$365 thousand was divided among the districts prior to President Boakai’s inauguration, with each district receiving US$5,000. However, some members have expressed concern that an additional US$1,000 was taken out of the distribution.

FrontPageAfrica revealed last week that, in the absence of agreement from the other members, Chairman Luther Tarpeh ordered the subtraction of $1,000 from the US$5,000 allotted for each district. However, as of this Monday, January 29, 2024, at the latest, the UP National Chairman has directed all County Chairs to submit thorough spending reports of monies received from the National Secretariat.
