Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s longstanding leadership in promoting democracy, peace, and sustainable development throughout the West African subregion has been commended by Mohamed Konneh, the newly appointed Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Ambassador to Liberia.
Liberia continues to play a critical role in promoting regional security, integration, and good governance, according to Ambassador Konneh, who also described the nation as a significant partner in the ECOWAS community.
On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, the ECOWAS envoy gave President Joseph Nyuma Boakai his Letter of Credence at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia, beginning his diplomatic mission in Liberia. As he presented his credentials, Ambassador Konneh reiterated ECOWAS’s commitment to fortifying its alliance with Liberia and promised to collaborate closely with the Boakai administration to further the regional bloc’s goals.
Ambassador Konneh noted that Liberia holds a unique position in ECOWAS history. As a continent and a region, he said, “We respect Liberia’s leadership in regional integration, security, and governance.”
In addition to supporting initiatives to advance peace, security, good governance, and greater regional integration, he stated that his objective will be in line with ECOWAS’ vision as the regional organization commemorates its 50th anniversary.
He said, “I am grateful and I pledge to work closely with your government to ensure that we uphold the good image and responsibilities of ECOWAS in accordance with the 50th anniversary of ECOWAS and the objectives of regional integration, peace, security, and good governance, as well as the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda.”
On behalf of himself, his family, and the ECOWAS Commission, the ambassador also conveyed goodwill. Konneh continued, “I raise a toast to your good health, the prosperity and unity of Liberia, and the people of Liberia on behalf of myself, my family, and ECOWAS.”
The official start of Ambassador Konneh’s diplomatic assignment in Liberia is marked by the presentation of his Letter of Credence, which also highlights ECOWAS’s ongoing dedication to strengthening collaboration with the Liberian government in the fields of sustainable development, economic integration, regional security, and governance.
