Paynesville – Alston Mabande delivered an impressive performance as NPA Pythons opened their Best-of-Five series with a victory over defending champions LPRC Oilers over the weekend at the SKD Gymnasium. The former Liberia Under-18 player scored 11 of NPA Pythons’ 46 points in their 46-37 triumph over their rivals, giving his side a 1-0 lead in the series.
The match was a thrilling contest, with fans from both teams filling the SKD Gymnasium and creating an exciting atmosphere from start to finish. For the first time, National Port Authority Managing Director Sekou Dukuly attended an NPA Pythons game to support his team.
Meanwhile, it was a familiar sight to see LPRC Managing Director Amos Tweh at the gymnasium alongside his deputies, Jacob Smith and Eric Ceekay Sayee. In the women’s division, D-Rockas needed overtime to secure a hard-fought 73-69 victory over Flames.
In the men’s second division, Paynesville Bulldogs defeated Bushrod Dreams 71-54, while Junior Rockies edged Louisiana Blazers 57-55 in another closely contested encounter. The competition resumes on Wednesday with the same fixtures.
