Monrovia, Liberia—The Kvinna Till Kvinna Foundation, in collaboration with the Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia, the Female Journalists Association of Liberia, and a number of youth and women-led groups, is leading the PeaceGen Liberia Project, which will run for three years, from January 2026 to January 2028.
The project’s goal is to increase the participation of women and youth in peace processes, conflict avoidance, and local and national decision-making. With the aim to develop long-term local capacity for conflict resolution and transitional justice, it will offer advocacy assistance, mentorship, and training for women.
5,000 participants, including young peacebuilders, community leaders, journalists, civil society organizations, and government representatives, will be connected directly by PeaceGen. With national coordination and lobbying centered in Monrovia, implementation will take place in the counties of Bomi, Bong, Montserrado, Nimba, and Sinoe.
“It is crucial to ensure that women and youth are central to Liberia’s peace and governance processes,” Esther Davis, executive director of the Women’s NGO Secretariat of Liberia, stated during the launch. Without genuine participation from those most affected by conflict in decision-making, sustainable peace cannot be achieved, she added.
Cllr. Jallah Barbu, Executive Director of the War and Economic Crimes Court, also spoke at the occasion and encouraged youth to get ready for leadership roles before the 2029 elections. “Young people must start developing their capacity now and actively participate in national decision-making,” he said.
