Begins Disconnecting Customers Over Unpaid Sewer Bills

Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) has launched a major debt recovery campaign targeting customers with outstanding sewer service bills in Central Monrovia, Sinkor, and Bushrod Island, warning that continued nonpayment will result in service disconnections.
According to a release, the enforcement exercise, led by the Corporation’s Debt Recovery Task Force, involves the collection of overdue sewer payments and the disconnection of customers who have failed to settle their accounts despite receiving prior notices.
Also, the LWSC explained that the initiative is aimed at improving revenue collection, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring the uninterrupted provision of sewer services across its service areas.
The Corporation is urging all customers with delinquent sewer accounts to pay their outstanding balances immediately to avoid disconnection and additional charges.
Moreover, LWSC cautioned that disconnected sewer services could create serious public health and environmental hazards, including sewage overflows, blocked sewer lines, foul odors, and unsanitary conditions that may affect homes, businesses, and surrounding communities.
The Corporation also stressed that customers whose services are disconnected will only be reconnected after paying all outstanding sewer bills along with the required reconnection fee.
Reaffirming the importance of customer compliance, LWSC said the timely payment of sewer bills is a shared responsibility that is critical to maintaining, operating, and expanding Liberia’s sewer infrastructure, ensuring reliable sanitation services for the public.
