Tubmanburg, Bomi County – The National Patriotic Party, a founding member of the Coalition for Democratic Change, has noted that President George Weah must show impartiality toward the coalition’s three founding political parties in order for it to survive.

With ten months until the country’s presidential and legislative elections, the NPP and the Liberia People’s Democratic Party, which comprise the coalition, need to be given their fair portions both now and after the elections, according to NPP National Chairman Senator James Biney.

The statement was made by Senator Biney during his keynote address at the program opening the Liberia People’s Democratic Party’s second national convention, which took place in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, over the weekend. Unambiguously, the Maryland County Senator stated that the coalition must use a democratic process to choose candidates for parliamentary seats.

He claims that the resolution that MPs are currently signing in the legislature to essentially impose themselves as candidates on the coalition is doomed to failure. According to the NPP National Chairman, the coalition’s abject failure in the 2020 midterm elections was primarily attributable to the imposition of candidates on the alliance.

The NPP does not have any appointees at the cabinet level, according to Chairman Biney, ten months before the conducting of the presidential and legislative elections. He said there would never be “business as usual” and that it was time to recognize the LPDP and the NPP as equal constituent members.

Alex Tyler, a former House Speaker, has been chosen to serve as the Liberia People’s Democratic Party’s political head for the ensuing five years. Chief Moses Kollie, Eric Kpayea, National Secretary General, Edward Goba, National Vice Chairman for Legal Affairs, and others were also re-elected.

They were re-elected in accordance with a resolution passed at the conclusion of the Liberia People’s Democratic Party’s second national convention, which took place over the weekend in Tubmanbrug, Bomi County. Former Speaker Alex Tyler addressed expressed that the LPDP and NPP are subpar to the Congress for Democratic Change, which some members of the Coalition for Democratic Change hold.

A number of resolutions were adopted at the conclusion of the Liberia People’s Democratic Party’s second national conference. In reading the resolution, the National Vice Chairman for Press and Public Affairs of the LPDP, George Woodtor, stated among others that the party had adopted a new constitution and had decided to cooperate with the Coalition for Democratic Change in the 2023 presidential and legislative elections.

According to him, the resolution also extended the terms of office for another six years for all members of the LPDP’s national executive committee. Building Unity in Diversity was the theme of the ceremony, which was attended by the Legislative Caucus of the CDC, Mulbah Morlu, National Chairman of the CDC, Andrew Peters, Secretary General of the NPP, Richard Devine, a former senator from Bomi, traditional leaders, chiefs, youths, and women’s groups.
