CDC Morlu Warns Incoming UP Government of Witch-hunting

Sinkor, Monrovia – Mulbah K. Morlu, the national chair of the Coalition for Democratic Change of George Weah, has issued a warning to the Unity Party government, saying that the CDC will not submit even a small portion of Liberia to misrule, witch hunts, or poor leadership.

“George Manneh Weah, the party’s standard bearer and outgoing president of Liberia, provided answers in his concession speech about the 2023 election. Nonetheless, we want to make it clear to our adversaries and the future administration that we will not give up even a little portion of Liberia to corruption, witch hunts, or poor leadership.”

Speaking at the CDC headquarters in Congo Town over the weekend for his first press conference since the election, Morlu urged party members to take solace in the knowledge that the Coalition for Democratic Change is still strong and resilient as long as they continue to be mobilised.

Reminding those in authority who take pride in the CDC’s struggles, he said the party is a fortress of fearless revolutionaries dedicated to the people’s party’s inexorable rise, a cause they are willing to sacrifice their lives, blood, and sweat for. Instead of being a group to be pitied.

“As we learn vital lessons from the past, the CDC will keep standing up for what is just and right in defense of the cause of the people, which does not end with one term but continues even after we are dead and turned to dust.”

Morlu warned patisams and all Liberians not to be alarmed by the Boakai-Koung administration when it takes office in January 2024, citing the party as the political bulwark of Liberia’s democracy.

“Do not yield to politics of intimidation and fear; I say to you in civil service, FEAR NOT! Under the leadership of this National Executive Committee of the CDC, which is led by undisputed, trustworthy, and accomplished revolutionaries, we will reassert the mighty CDC’s national political dominance to protect and keep you safe from witch-hunting and tyranny.”

He emphasised that “Eagles Don’t Fear Heights,” noting that the CDC will stand by its supporters no matter what, whether they are in a valley or on the brink of a cliff. Mulbah K. Morlu, however, recalled that the party suffered numerous humiliations, cruelties, and barbarisms throughout the CDC’s 12-year opposition period.

“We were flogged, jailed, and some of our people even died to protect Liberia’s nascent democracy. Through it all, we survived and ascended to power in 2018.”

He pointed out that the party responsibly managed, upheld Liberians’ human rights, and stabilised the socioeconomic structure of Liberia during their progressive ascent to power.

“In addition to defending fundamental rights, the CDC also upheld freedoms of the press, association, and assembly. In fact, we shielded every protestor at opposition events, such as the opposition-organized June 7, 2019 gathering.”
