Monrovia, Liberia – Atty. Janga Augustus Kowo, the National Chair of the CDC has warned President Boakai administration not to tamper with the constitutional powers of the General Auditing Commission by virtue of the latter’s recent mandate to look into alleged misconduct at the Governance Commission and the LTA.
The Liberian Leader also announced the suspension of the Chairperson and Commissioners of the Liberia Telecommunication Authority, Edwina Zackpah, Israel Akinsanya, Zotawon Titus, James Gbarwea, and Osborne Diggs, respectively, due to claims of dubious financial transactions and other misconduct at the institution.
In addition, the President ordered the suspended officials to fully cooperate with the investigation and asked the General Auditing Commission to conduct a thorough audit of the LTA in order to look into the claims made at the Authority.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, April 29, 2024, in Congo Town, Attorney Kowo stated that the President’s acceptance of the Court’s decision was speculative.
But Atty. Kowo noted that president broken the 1986 Liberian Constitution by suspending the unfairly dismissed people few hours after they had won the court case against the Boakai government.
He encouraged President Boakai to cease politicizing the autonomous roles of the anti-graft organization and urged the General Auditing Commission to resist the political mandate of the President to look into those same individuals allegation.
