Monrovia, Liberia – Phase two of the renovation and expansion project at the state-owned Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) is ready to start, according to the People’s Republic of China government, which made the announcement through His Excellency Yin Chengwu, its ambassador accredited to Monrovia.
The announcement made by Ambassador Chengwu during his courtesy visit to Mr. Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, was that the advance team was scheduled to arrive in Liberia this week to work out arrangements with LBS management regarding the project’s start.

Minister Piah, who also serves as the Chairman of the LBS Board of Directors, expressed gratitude to China for helping LBS support the Government of Liberia (GOL) in effectively disseminating its accomplishments, programs, and activities to the public while reiterating the GOL’s adherence to the One China policy.
Phase one of the LBS enlargement and refurbishing project began in November 2007 thanks to a Technical Assistance Agreement that China and the GOL signed in 2006. In November 2008, China gave the GOL a fully functional and rebuilt LBS facility.
The LBS expansion project came with a $4 million price tag. Through microwave satellite links, the station’s relay outstations in Bomi, Bong, Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, and Maryland Counties were connected to the main studio in Monrovia, extending its coverage to other counties in Liberia.
