China Donates 3,600 Tons of Rice to Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia – China’s ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, delivered 3,600 metric tons of emergency humanitarian food aid to the Liberian government on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. In addition to fulfilling commitments made at the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), this measure enhanced China’s strategic engagement with the nation.

China’s ambassador to Liberia said during the official transfer ceremony that “once we commit, we will honor it” and that Beijing’s pledge to implement summit promises is demonstrated by the food aid. He said that the shipment carries the goodwill of the Chinese people and is intended to improve the welfare of vulnerable populations and reduce Liberia’s food challenges.

Recalling Beijing’s several rounds of food assistance over the years, Ambassador Yin stressed that the most recent donation builds on China’s long-standing support for Liberia’s food security. He stated that food security is still at the top of China’s domestic and global development agenda, with a renewed emphasis on assisting developing nations in creating resilient and stable food systems as the country gets ready to implement its 15th Five-Year Plan.

Beyond humanitarian aid, the Chinese envoy characterized the aid as a potent symbol of the strategic cooperation between China and Liberia, emphasizing shared accountability in tackling global issues like hunger and climate change. “Your prosperity contributes to our shared future,” he said, highlighting China’s dedication to mutual development and prosperity.

In order to create a future “free from hunger and full of hope,” he also pledged that China will keep strengthening ties with Liberia through the FOCAC framework, coordinating development plans, and extending cooperation across important sectors. It is anticipated that the food aid will assist government-led distribution initiatives meant to improve national food security and safeguard Liberia’s most vulnerable citizens.

Senior Liberian officials attended the event, including development partners and diplomats, as well as Commerce and Industry Minister Magdalene E. Dagoseh, Minister of State without Portfolio Hadja Mamaka Bility, Deputy Foreign Minister Cllr. Jeddi Mowbray Armah, and Deputy Commerce Minister for Administration Tanue Jeke.
