Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Comments on Tsai Ing-wen’s “transit” journey via United States.

BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) – The Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen traveled through the US on Thursday, according to a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Xinhua, the United States permitted Tsai Ing-wen’s “transit” trip through the country and the high-profile meeting between Tsai and Kevin McCarthy, the third-highest ranking official in the U.S. government, despite China’s stern representations and repeated warnings.

Additionally, the US made it possible for Tsai to communicate with American officials and lawmakers and gave her a stage from which to make statements supporting Taiwan independence.

The United States engaged in official interaction with Taiwan, conspired with Taiwanese authorities to thwart separatists’ attempts to conduct political activities on American soil, and elevated substantive relations between the United States and Taiwan Xinhua reports.

Such actions have severely broken the one-China concept, the terms of the three joint communiques between China and the United States, seriously violated China’s sovereignty, seriously damaged China’s territorial integrity, and critically sent the wrong message to the separatist forces pushing for Taiwan independence. China vehemently rejects and strongly denounces the actions according to Xinhua.

In order for China and the United States to establish diplomatic relations, they must first agree to the one-China principle, which is a core rule in international relations.

The United States has repeatedly broken its agreements by obstinately adhering to the policy of “using Taiwan to contain China” for a lengthy period of time. It has consistently undermined and hollowed out the one-China principle by making provocations and relentlessly challenging the status quo in areas like official interactions with Taiwan, arms sales to Taiwan, and military cooperation with Taiwan.

Since taking office, Tsai has refused to recognize the 1992 Consensus, which represents the one-China principle; encouraged, supported, and pushed different kinds of separatist words and actions that sought “Taiwan independence” on the island; and advanced incremental “independence” under various guises. Cross-Strait relations were as a result improved.

The first line that should never be crossed in China-U.S. ties is the Taiwan dispute, which lies at the very heart of China’s vital interests. “Taiwan independence” is a dead end that cannot coexist with the stability and tranquility that exists on the other side of the Taiwan Strait. China will take decisive and successful steps to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity in response to the gravely incorrect acts of cooperation between the United States and Taiwan. We urge the United States once more to uphold the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiques, act on its commitment to not support “Taiwan independence” or “two Chinas” or “one China, one Taiwan,” and immediately end all forms of official interaction with Taiwan. We also urge the United States to stop improving its military capabilities in Taiwan, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.
