Christian Weah Promises to Change Liberia Football

    AHEAD OF LFA 2026 ELECTION

Paynesville, Liberia – The President of Chrisco United FC has vowed to bring transformation to Liberian football beginning with the new league season. Christian Weah said he will use his contacts and experience as a former player to create avenues for every program under Chrisco United to be attracted to the outside world.

He cited the development of computer skills for people, the reduction of transportation costs, the building of a 400,000 dollar mini-stadium, the acquisition of grassroots athletes from five countries, a sports store, and the negotiation of contracts for male and female players competing on the world stage as the key to sports development.

Mr. Weah made the disclosure on Monday, July 2, 2023, in Paynesville when he unveiled a 28-seated bus as one of three buses for his programs.

According to him, every program under their watch will fully benefit from the gesture ranging from Stages Queen, Senior Female Professional, and City Football Academy amongst others.

He also mentioned the several international competitions that their clubs would be participating in this year. They specifically mentioned Sierra Leone, Morocco, and the Gothia Cup in Sweden as part of their objectives to change football in Liberia at all levels.

Weah admitted that the Mini Stadium, Clinic, and player guest house construction project would take three years to complete and would be done by 2026.

The president of Chrisco United added that a change is required because the Mustapha Raji-led administration is having a negative impact on Liberian football. He claimed that even the new headquarters, which Mr. Raji claimed would cost 1.5 or 1.4 million USD, was not worth the money, given that clubs are struggling, unilateral decisions are frequently made, and a variety of other poor choices are being made.

In announcing his intention to run for the LFA in the next elections in 2026, Mr. Weah promised that if elected, he would ensure that clubs received buses, player guest houses, and a host of other advantages in order to transform football in the nation.

In order to strengthen the national squad, he also pledged to naturalize a few notable players, as is done in other nations.

“We have a distinct perspective on football, which is why we’ve come to transform it by adding value so that all parties involved players, coaches, and fans can profit.”

Additionally, Mr. Christian Weah serves as the CEO of Chrisco Holding, a financial corporation and nongovernmental organization that imports food from Liberia to Canada and the United States Dollar.
