Watanga FC has been crowned Champions of the 2021/2022 edition of the Orange 1st Division National league following a 3-0 win over Monrovia Club Breweries on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville.
The Paynesville-based club under the guardian of former BYC Coach Robert Larteh set the record straight when he took over in the second half of the season from Matthew Julutweh who joined one of the traditional clubs, Mighty Barrolle.
Watanga FC finished the league with 42 points from 22 league matches and two points clear of 2nd place Bea Mountain who got 40 points.
This trophy is Watanga FC’s first top flat title in the Liberian football competition in 25 years. They were given twenty thousand United States (20USD) and hosts of other benefits as a reward for winning the championship.
Watanga FC joined Determine Girls FC as qualified candidates to represent Liberia in the 2022/2023 CAF competitions.
Determine Girls will participate in CAF women’s Champions League, they conquered the women’s championship in the Women’s league, while Watanga FC walk away with the Men’s Championship and will take part in the male edition of CAF competitions.
Liberia’s next candidate for the CAF competition will be decided next Sunday when LISCR FC takes on Tony FC in the Petro Trade Cup grand finale at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia. The winner of the match will participate in the next edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.
