Monrovia, Liberia – Christian Missionary Fellowship International (CMFI) has emerged as Montserrado County’s academic champion after defeating St. Simon Baptist School in a thrilling grand final of the 2026 Liberia National Quizzing County Meet, earning the right to represent the county at the national stage.

The championship showdown, held Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Monrovia City Hall in Sinkor, brought together two of the county’s strongest academic institutions in a fiercely contested battle on the topic “Who Owns the New Testament?” CMFI delivered the winning performance to lift the coveted county trophy and secure Montserrado’s lone ticket to the next phase of the nationwide competition.

Earlier, Liberia Christian Organization Secondary School (LICOSESS) secured third place with a commanding 190-45 victory over William V.S. Tubman High School, finishing with an emphatic 145-point margin. The event also recognized exceptional individual performances across various academic disciplines.

Prince M. Theo of St. Simon Baptist School was crowned the Silver Mind Award winner as the Most Outstanding Quizzer, finishing with 220 points, while Theo also earned the award for Best Quizzer in Social Studies with 160 points. His teammate, Samuel G. Williams, was named Best Quizzer in Science after scoring 135 points.

James R. Berry of LICOSESS Demonstration School received the Best Quizzer in Language Arts award with 95 points, while Melvin Gizzie of CMFI Bi-Lingual School won Best Quizzer in Mathematics with 145 points. In the Lifestyle category, Smith Jackson of CMFI Bi-Lingual School and James R. Berry of LICOSESS Demonstration School both scored 95 points.

Although only one trophy was originally designated for the category, organizers decided that each top-performing student should receive recognition. As a result, the lifestyle trophy was awarded to Smith Jackson, while James Berry retained the Language Arts trophy.

Ruth Fayiah of Pamela Kay School was recognized as the Best Female Quizzer after accumulating 145 points, while Eddie Mah of St. Simon Baptist School received the Best Coach Award.

The Liberia National Quizzing County Meet is designed to promote academic excellence, critical thinking, research, and intellectual development among students across the country.

This year’s competition was held under the theme “Unlocking Potentials to Enhance National Development through Academic Excellence.”

However, the 2026 edition is organized by the Liberia National Students Union in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Intellect and Inspiration for Rights and Research (iQ LiKE), the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Liberia Telecommunications Authority, and the President’s Youth Advisory Council.

With the county title secured, CMFI now advances to the national championship, where it will carry Montserrado’s hopes in the battle for Liberia’s top academic quizzing honor.
