Monrovia, Liberia – A unique Christmas initiative from the De-Socro Foundation will assist 500 expectant mothers and newborns at three medical institutions in River Gee County. On December 9, 2025, the effort will begin. The goal of this project is to assist mothers who find it difficult to pay for medical treatment. The foundation’s CEO, Deckontee Socro, stated that in order to ensure the project’s success, local health center teams have been involved in its planning.

Fish-Town County Referral Hospital, Sarbo Comprehensive Health Center, and Gbeapo Kanweaken Comprehensive Health Center will assist the mothers. These locations are crucial to the county’s maternal health. According to Socro, the Foundation will supply diapers, baby clothes, and other necessities that many women cannot afford.
Socro, a registered midwife, talked about the challenges faced by expectant mothers in remote medical institutions. “I want to help my community because some women can’t even pay ten Liberian dollars for cold water, and others don’t have any clothes for their newborn babies,” she stated.
She further emphasized that the De-Socro Foundation is solely concerned with aiding those in need and is not involved in politics. This has nothing to do with politics. I’m not interested in politics. “We do humanitarian work,” she stated. The Foundation’s Executive Director, Orisa M. Tweh, stated that they are also developing initiatives to support the county’s underprivileged youth, individuals with disabilities, and other marginalized populations. He urged the people of River Gee to back the Foundation’s initiatives.
The De-Socro Foundation has helped many people in the past by providing food, school supplies, and other essential items to families in need in Electoral District #1. Both Socro & Tweh spoke about the project on Voice of River Gee 91.1 FM on December 3, 2025, in Fish-Town.
Other organizations, like the Kuncare Foundation, are also helping the county. They plan to give out 100 motorcycles and 200 reflective jackets to motorcyclists in River Gee, Kuncare is also building a new parking station worth over $60,000 to improve transportation safety.
As the holiday season approaches, locals say these efforts bring hope and relief to families in need. During the radio program, many callers thanked the foundations for their support and urged them to continue their good work for the community.
