Failure of gov’t to pay USD$ 7million to contractors cause delay in Johnsonville road project, says Minister Collins

Acting Public Works Minister Ruth Coker Collins has restated that the lack of equipment and delay in the completion of projects by contractors are major challenges hindering the work of the Ministry. Addressing the Ministry of Information press briefing on Thursday, January 13, 2022, Minister Collins noted that the delay in the implementation of road projects across the country is a result of the lack of adequate equipment at the Ministry.

According to the Minister, the Coronavirus pandemic and delay in the completion of projects by contractors is another major contributor to the smooth workings of the Ministry’s work. Minister Collins named Crawler Excavator, Motor Grader, Road Roller, and Wheel Loader amongst others are some equipment’s that the Ministry is lacking, and delaying the implementation of Government in the Country.

The head of Public Works at the same has attributed the suspension of the Johnsonville road construction to government failure to pay an amount of over seven million United States Dollars (USD$ 7 million) to the Contractors.
