Monrovia, Liberia – Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, is scheduled to attend the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank Group Africa Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from January 27–28. The Deputy Minister for Economic Management, Hon. Dephue Zuo, will accompany Minister Ngafuan to the Energy Summit as a member of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s entourage.
It is anticipated that the finance minister of Liberia would also provide a special remark about the status of the nation’s energy industry. In addition, the two-day event will showcase the achievements of the energy sector in a few chosen nations, form a coalition of industry participants to boost investments in energy infrastructure, and strengthen regional power planning, trade, and policy frameworks to facilitate the execution of the African Single Electricity Market and the Continental Master Plan.
In order to further Mission 300, a ground-breaking project to expand energy access to 300 million Africans and accelerate the continent’s transition to sustainable energy, it will bring together African heads of state, foreign partners, philanthropists, and leaders of the commercial sector. With the goal to serve remote regions, Mission 300’s plan combines conventional grid expansion with creative off-grid alternatives.
Prioritizing sustainable finance approaches, the initiative will tackle important issues such currency mismatches in project funding.
Using cutting-edge technology and creative funding, the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank, along with other international partners, began the project in April 2024 in an unprecedented partnership to close Africa’s ongoing energy access gap.
Approximately 600 million Africans or an astounding 83 percent of the world’s energy-poor do not have access to power.
