Monrovia, Liberia – Deputy Minister Daniel Sando claimed that former Liberian international player Christopher Wreh made $1000US, but Wreh confirmed that he actually made $620US as an employee of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Affairs, and Tourism.
On Monday, July 8, 2024, Minister Sando said on Radio Bushrod that the former member of the National Team had been cut off from the MiCAT payroll because of his lack of work experience, Wreh made $1,000 USD, according to Sando.
In an interview with DN News Liberia, Wreh stated that he was employed by the Ministry for four years until Peter Butler, the previous head coach of Lonestar, selected him as deputy coach.
He added that although Kwame Opa Weeks was managing the Liberian News Agency and paying him as a staff member, he had to apply for a leave of absence through the HR Manager after being named deputy coach.
The former Arsenal player said that up to the establishment of Joseph Boakia’s government, which removed his name from the payroll, he was consistently paid while on his leave of absence with the National Team.
He explained that he was singled out for special attention not because he had “no work history,” as Deputy Minister Daniel Sando claimed.
According to a directive from former president George Weah, Christopher Wreh confirmed to DN News that he worked for former minister Eugene Nagbe.
