Monrovia, Liberia – The State of the World Population Report 2025 is anticipated to be released by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in partnership with the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. According to a press statement, the 2025 State of the World Population Report is entitled “The Real Fertility Crisis.”

The Pursuit of Reproductive Agency in a Changing World was published worldwide on June 10, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya, by UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem. The State of World Population report is an annual publication by UNFPA that analyzes global population trends, focusing on sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Richard Nagbe Koon, the House Speaker of the 55th Legislature, will unveil the report and provide the keynote speech during the ceremony. According to this year’s State of the World Population Report, millions of individuals worldwide are unable to have as many children as they would want, whether that number is more, lower, or zero.

The most important reproductive choices a person can make when, if, and with whom to have a child are being compromised. Instead of overpopulation or underpopulation, the true fertility issue is people’s incapacity to achieve their intended reproductive objectives.

Reproductive agency, according to the report, includes all of the circumstances that allow people to exercise their reproductive rights and guarantee true choice, such as gender equality, economic stability, decent health, and future confidence. It goes beyond simply being free from coercion or having better access to services.

A high-level panel discussion with officials from the Liberian government, civil society, development partners, and youth will be part of the country’s launch to debate the report’s implications for Liberia.

According to a poll conducted among more than 400,000 people in 14 countries, the decision to have children is influenced by a number of factors, including economic circumstances, housing crises, climate change, war or violence, pandemics, and finding a spouse.

UNFPA additionally called on governments and other stakeholders to establish conditions that allow those who fervently desire to enjoy the pleasures and rewards of parenthood to achieve their fertility targets and to have hope for a better future that respects their rights and supports their choices, one in which their children and their children’s children can flourish.
