Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberian government, through the Ministry of Education, has promised to add more than 2,000 volunteer teachers on the government payroll in response to protests from Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) students.

During a press conference held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism in Monrovia, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Jallah stated that the Ministry has been conducting a nationwide profile of volunteer instructors nationwide.

Dr. Jallah explained that throughout the profiling process, the Ministry found 6,190 volunteer instructors, of whom 1,520 did not fulfill the Liberian government’s educational standards.

Additionally, Minister Jallah revealed that during a Ministry exercise, 3,557 qualified volunteer teachers who were currently serving were identified.

However, Dr. Jallah said, the ministry is working with the Civil Service Agency and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to collect the credentials of the two thousand volunteer instructors who will be hired by the government.

According to Minister Jallah, the exercise will start on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Minister Jallah expressed regret for the students behavior, saying, they should have a setting that is favorable for learning.
