Improving Border Monitoring
Sorlumba Town Lofa County – With the introduction of Starlink internet services at the Sorlumba crossing point in Lofa County, the Government of Liberia through the Liberian Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has sped up its efforts to improve border security.
The action comes after media reports (Reports231 Media Network and OKFM Liberia) discovered that the Sorlumba border crossing point lacked internet connectivity, raising questions about coordination and surveillance at the crucial point of entry between Guinea and Liberia.
As part of the team installing the internet service, LTA Chairman Clarence Massaquoi visited Sorlumba Town to highlight the importance of the project, which is expected to tighten monitoring, improve real-time communication, and increase the overall efficacy of security personnel.
Border security officers welcomed the initiative and praised the government for fixing persistent network problems in remote areas. During a joint investigation, Reports231 Media Network and OKFM Liberia learned of a devastating network situation in that part of Liberia. The lack of connectivity has historically hampered operations including timely data sharing and collaboration with central authorities.
